Certification of Minority-Owned Businesses
The NMSDC (National Minority Supplier Development Council) has a certification Policy and Procedures Manual, which is followed by its 42 affiliated Councils when certifying minority-owned businesses. The intention of standardizing procedures is to assure consistent and identical review and certification of minority-owned businesses throughout the NMSDC Network.
An MBE is a for-profit enterprise, regardless of size, physically located in the United States or its trust territories, which is owned, operated and controlled by minority group members. "Minority group members" are United States citizens who are African American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian-Pacific American and Asian-Indian American. Ownership by minority individuals means the business is at least 51% owned by such individuals or, in the case of a publicly-owned business, at least 51% of the stock is owned by one or more such individuals. Further the management and daily operations are controlled by those minority group members. Applicant MBE's meeting the certification criteria will be eligible for specified services provided by NMSDC and its Regional Councils.
Certified MBE's will be listed in the Regional Council Minority Supplier Directory and in the NMSDC national database called the Minority Business Information System (MBISYS) to which all national corporate members have direct access. This allows an MBE the opportunity to market its products or services nationwide.
Reciprocity of certification is the standard policy of all affiliated Councils in the NMSDC Network.
